Kompaktes RFID-Lesegerät entwickelt

Einem Bericht auf RFIDupdate zufolge, hat das Insitute of Microelectronics mit Sitz in Singapur einen RFID-Lesechip für UHF (Ultrahigh Frequency) entwickelt, der das Potenzial hat, die Preis für tragbare RFID-Lesegeräte dramatisch zu reduzieren.


Während andere Lesegeräte aus diversen elektronischen Komponenten zusammengeschraubt werden, befinden sich bei IME alle Komponenten auf einem kleinen Silikonstückchen. So reduziert sich das Gewicht auf weniger als 100 Gramm und der Energieverbrauch soll bei gerade einmal einem Watt liegen. Außerdem sagt das Unternehmen voraus, den Preis auf unter 100 US-Dollar drücken zu wollen.


Vor allem die Vielseitigkeit des international einsetzbaren neuen Chips ist verblüffend. In dem Artikel heißt es:

He noted that theoretically the chip could be used within fixed readers, but doing so would result in a larger form factor necessary to achieve power levels that enable fixed readers' characteristically long read ranges.
